What's left is a free educational resource: a hiring checklist, typical cost ranges, and emergency triage guidance for plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, and handymen, plus a free tool linking to the official state license-lookup site for each state we cover. We are not currently operating a provider directory or a quote-matching service.
Why we made this change
A directory of fabricated business listings — even one clearly labeled as illustrative — creates real risk: a homeowner could reasonably mistake a sample listing for a real, hireable business. Rather than keep patching that risk with disclaimers, we removed the listings entirely. A real, sourced directory of licensed local providers is a substantial separate undertaking (verified data, ongoing maintenance) that may happen in the future, but we are not going to fabricate placeholder data in the meantime.
What you can still do here
Every service guide includes a homeowner's hiring checklist, typical cost ranges by job type, and — where relevant — an emergency triage guide. The Verify a License tool links directly to each state's official contractor-license lookup, so you can check any contractor's license yourself before hiring, regardless of where you found their name.
